Goals & Objectives

In recent years, the need for a significant and ongoing effort for stimulating economic activity in the downtown area has been identified by many interested parties, including the local economic development organizations (MERG, MEDCO, Greater Meriden Chamber of Commerce, the City of Meriden, et al.).

BL Companies was directed by Meriden Economic Resources Group, Inc. (MERG) to perform a study of the potential for redevelopment and revitalization of downtown Meriden. This report is the first step in the development of the Meriden City Center Initiative. It provides a technical review and analysis of the feasibility associated with this redevelopment.

The objective of this initiative is to study the current issues affecting the City Center, including a comprehensive review of development projects, either proposed or underway, a review of area resources, and an analysis of the infrastructure. The intent is to provide MERG and the City of Meriden with a comprehensive summary of related technical issues that may affect the decision process regarding the redevelopment of the Meriden City Center.

More importantly, this information has been utilized to prepare a Master Plan for the development of the downtown area.
