Public Transportation & Infrastructure
Meriden currently has a rail station but it is under utilized. This should be developed as Meriden positions itself as an important component of the rail line from New Haven to Springfield, MA, which is currently under consideration for a commuter service. The urban infrastructure must also be developed to include bus routes from the rail station, as well as housing and businesses in the immediate vicinity of the train station. A renovated facility, with adequate parking and linkages to the roadway system can be a central element of the City Center. If successful, the area around the transportation center may act as a living center for those working in other municipalities.
All improvements must be proposed with an awareness of the need to provide adequate infrastructure. This includes not only transportation, but also ample accommodation for flood control, utilities, and related elements which, if not addressed, may present physical constraints on growth.
