Master Plan Overview

This Master Plan is based on a review and understanding of the history of Meriden, a candid assessment of the challenges facing Meriden and a recognition of the existing initiatives already underway to meet those challenges. The purpose is to develop a plan that is a natural and logical next step in the city’s development.

The ultimate goal is to benefit the entire City of Meriden. This Master Plan focuses on the previously defined Study Areas and within the Study Areas, it focuses on the specific areas that have the greatest immediate potential. These are the Proposed Development Areas. Within those areas, the Master Plan proposes a program for the development of a viable multi-use environment that will reinvigorate these areas and in turn create momentum for redevelopment in the entire city.

In this Master Plan section of the report, the first subsection briefly discusses the proposed improvements to roadways and traffic patterns; the next subsection addresses the proposals for each individual area and, where appropriate, discusses existing initiatives; and the next discusses housing. The final subsection addresses the existing initiatives and describes how they integrate with the Master Plan.
