In order to fully appreciate where Meriden can go in the future, it is important to have an accurate understanding of where Meriden is today.

A critical component is understanding the special challenges presented by the current condition of the Project Area. This includes understanding the current uses in the area and the limitations and opportunities inherent in those uses. It includes understanding the challenges presented by transportation issues including vehicular flow, parking and public transportation. It includes the human issues of pedestrian linkage and the city’s historic and architectural heritage. It also includes the very practical considerations of physical infrastructure including flood control issues and utilities.

Finally, to understand where Meriden is today, it is essential to understand the various initiatives and projects that are already underway in various stages. The Master Plan incorporates many of these initiatives or other means for achieving the same goals and objectives.
