Introduction

These guidelines are intended to assist municipal officials, developers, design professionals, and the community in understanding the planning principles and design elements that are key to creating an attractive, functional and memorable city center for Meriden. 

Recognizing that the Meriden Green and Commercial Center may involve multiple developments over a period of years, these guidelines are intended to help ensure harmony and compatibility among improvements in the project area.  Guidelines alone cannot guarantee quality design and development.  These guidelines are not intended to replace the skills of experienced design professionals or to limit the creativity of the design process. 

Weaving together public infrastructure improvements with private investment, the Meriden Green and Commercial Center will become a regional destination for visitors and give form to a reemerging downtown.

Each proposed development within the project area should be designed in accordance with these guidelines.  Municipal officials will review proposed development for consistency with these guidelines and with proposed and approved projects.
