Lighting & Sign Details
Lighting
Details
Recognizing the differing needs of street lighting and pedestrian scale lighting, separate fixtures should be provided.
Site lighting should be pedestrian-scaled and visually compatible with the architecture.
Lamps used in all exterior fixtures – street lighting, pedestrian-scaled site lighting, sign illumination, and wall-mounted fixtures - should be selected for a consistent, high color rendering index (CRI).
Lighting levels should be uniform throughout the site and of a minimal intensity chosen for safety and security and respect for neighboring residential areas.
Sign Details
Comprehensive signage standards allow modestly scaled signs to effectively communicate their intended message without overpowering a space.
A palette of consistent materials and colors ensures compatibility with the streetscape.
Uniformly limiting sign height and maximum area helps ensure legibility by eliminating competing signs.
A variety of sign types - freestanding, wall mounted, hanging, storefront window, etc. should be allowed.
Freestanding and hanging signs should have external illumination only. Wall mounted signs may be internally illuminated.
Pole-mounted, flashing, changeable copy, and neon signs should all be avoided.
